The output signal of BTD is a resistance signal, which varies linearly with the temperature. This signal is given to a temperature indicator / controller for achieving the desired measurement and control. Temperatures upto 500o C can be monitored and controlled with these BTDs. They are mostly housed in a metal stud which is fitted on bearing housing on tapped holes. Output of BTD is used in similar way like RTDs.
The Pt-100 BTDs are used widely to monitor the Bearing temperature of Electric Motors and AC Generators (Alternators). The BTDs are mounted on the Bearing housings by providing suitable tapped holes.
Customized designs of BTDs can be manufactured.
In many applications the temperature of windings has to be monitored continuously. The Pt-100 Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs) are used for temperature sensing, measurement and control of these windings. Higher HP rating motors use RTDs.
The Pt-100 RTDs are used widely to monitor the winding temperature of Electric Motors and Generators. The RTDs are used in motor winding overhang like thermistors. Generally motors of larger rating use flat strip type RTDs (called Slot RTDs), which can be fitted in the winding slots.2-wire / 3-wire RTDs are available.
